Quiche is such an easy dish that we've made for group and individual Caregiver meals and wanted to share! It's good really for any meal of the day and can be changed to whatever you like and/or include veggies. We like broccoli/ham too! This one is just sausage and cheese which pleases kiddos! It's also an "easy" food for patients, too, who may not have an appetite. It's got good protein as well. We pair with fruit and muffins (recipe coming!)
Bonus: The leftovers taste even better!
Sausage Quiche
Ingredients
1 9 inch unbaked frozen pie crust (get DEEP DISH so the liquid doesn't spill over!)
8 oz breakfast sausage
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup half and half
6 eggs
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp ground pepper
1/2 tsp group mustard
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place pie shell on cookie sheet.
Cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink (we even use precooked to save time!)
Spread 1/2 of sausage in pie shell and sprinkle with 1 cup cheese. Spread remaining sausage over cheese.
In medium bowl, whisk the half and half, eggs and seasonings.
Pour evenly (and slowly to avoid spilling over!) over sausage and sprinkle with remaining 1 cup cheese.
Bake 45-50 min or until center is set when gently shaken. Check at 30 min and cover with foil if becoming too brown.
Allow to rest for 30 minutes
